It's time for the moving pictures

Or rather it was, being as how Animethon 16 has wrapped three hours and change ago.

Got a nice pocket watch, saw some shows I'll no doubt end up torrenting fansubs of for a second look, laughed at the AMVs.

More details and some pictures when I don't feel like I'm going to faceplant into the keyboard.

Woooooooooooooooooooooo! *falls over*

book

Because I mentioned it to a few RL friends...

I pulled most all of this from the Open Manufacturing list. For people living in small, rectangular spaces.

Example cases, so I'm not just making things up )
The proposed next step in the OM list was to try and make this usable for the urban nomad. IE wedge yourself in between two sets of adds, bootleg the power you need from the lights and catch your water from rain.

It's a fun design challenge, but I wouldn't want to live there. Not long term.

The biologists are coming, the biologists are coming!

[info]ladylakira and [info]finaira might already know about this but it looks cool.

People tinkering with stuff.

Not an area where I have anything resembling training, but it's always nice to know what you can do with things you can find around the house.

Lemme just warm up the crack generator

Now most of us have seen JJ!Trek at least once.

And even if you haven't this is based on the trailers.

(So I'm late. So sue me.)

You know, I'd forgotten how much Shattner slouched in that chair.

I'm up, I'm up!

Alright. First point - people will tell you things like you can't pay off sleep debt by sleeping late one day a week and that it's not healthy.

I don't care. Sleeping late Saturdays keeps me sane enough to function, so bugger off.

Second point - where can I buy an iPod touch in this town with more than 8GB of memory? Seriously. (What? I'm coming to the whole iPod thing late in the game. I've generally had stereos available to me before now.)

Third point - the house now has four pianos in it. FOUR. The instruments will rise up and kill us all one night.

Fourth point - I might not have had enough sleep yet. (Goes, rereads the point before.) Yeah, probably not enough sleep. Unfortunately, it's a quarter to three in the afternoon, so time to be up anyway.

Fifth point - Will be getting a new desktop real soon now. Hopefully one that works. (Sounds of percussive maintenance from off-screen. Post damn you.)

Sixth point - Deadline for Animethon pre-reg looms quickly. Anyone else planning on attending? Lines! Drop me one.

Right then. Dwarf Fortress? Excessively complicated.

Never mind that I'm tracking which ores to pack when I embark for maximum wealth increase.

(Tetrahedrite to make billon bars from ore. Also, bronze for all my first weapons/tools because it's three-quarters as good as iron at one quarter the price. Bismuth bronze for the remained, because the ingredient cost less at embark and the results are worth more and it's just as useful as regular bronze.)

Help?

It has recently occurred to me recently that the Monty Python Sketch 'How Not to be Seen' is probably a real training film in the Fallout universe. It has that sort of feel to it, am I right?

Anyway, instead of the regular D&D game on Saturday night we had the Black Goat with a Thousand Young. Not the expansion, but that was the opponent. My character was an author. Thanks to the cards drawn she was essentially John Woo's the Author though. Dual wielding .38s made an impression on anyone that wasn't impervious to physical attacks. No one even went crazy! Not bad when there was only three of us playing I think. Well, J's magician did poorly since spells got blocked in the first turn but mostly he just got beaten up and mugged by ghosts a few times.

More news if I think of something interesting,

How I Spent Thursday Night (Instead of Sleeping Like Sane Thing)

Right, so. Went to [info]the_tall_man's and [info]finaira's to try out Cog Wars.

Good times. )

Meme, from [info]minkhollow: Reply to this post and I'll assign you a letter.
List (and upload, if you feel like it) 5 songs that start with that letter.
Post them to your journal with these instructions.

The Letter R was likely inspired by the Egyptian hieroglyph for 'head'. )

So, who's back online?

Me! Well 80% or so back online. There's some issues when I try and play a video at full screen, and I haven't installed an office suite yet, but the important parts are done. That is, I have internet, antivirus, bittorrent and a working music player that handles playlists.

Everything else? Gravy.

It's Probably January Talking...

... But I'm reading up on gold panning. It'll probably burn it's self out as an idea before the river begins to thaw. But, this is better than a number of options.

Like, say, putting together a RP journal for a Draka. Probably an Ingolfsson.

I don't like the Draka. They terrify me. Why am I sketching what the bio would look like and worrying how to write the accent?

Help?

Report From The Field

Hey Folks-

I´m writing to you from painfully sunny Equador. Now I´ve had my poor pale self out in more sun over the last three days than I usually get in a month. Probably more than I get otherwise for the whole winter. I´m thinking about investing in aloe vera.

I also speak essentially no Spanish. Canadian children´s television has left me with a small amount of French. School, Tae Kwon Do, and anime have beaten some knowledge of asian languages into me, but I have no romance.

Inca Cola is good. It´s knd oif a cafinated cream soda. Apparently more common in Peru. If the bottles were carry-on sized I´d be tempted to supliment on the flight back.

Oh! Fin, Lakira, there are postcards on their way to you and your SOs. We´ll see how that turns out.

There are other things to say, but I can´t think of them now. So, until next time.

Up, Up and Away!

Right then.

Some of you already know this, but what the heck.

On Thursday (the 18th) I skip the country for a few weeks. I'll be back *checks notes* on January 5th when I will nap and then have a bunch of caffeine before going to work.

OK, so there are planning issues. Whatever.

Email will be irregular. LJ will happen even less than it does now. (I know, that's supposed to be impossible.) Chat? Ahahahahaha! No.

Laters peoples,

A Letter I'm Thinking Of Putting Together

Dear Blue Cross,

You have apparently got you 'Good-Suck' knob turned to 'Suck'. The following are a few simple steps that may help with this.

First, I shouldn't have to turn on JavaScript to download a file. That's just silly.

Second, Firefox is a real browser. This means it should be able to open the pages and not crash because you hate the universe.

Third, not being able to save the forms as I complete them is bad. This lack of redundancy while enforcing, through demands for original receipts, that I will send you mail anyway is just extra silly.

No love,
Noca

Re Updated

I said I'd have pictures.
Look, here there are. )

This replaces a very poor assembly melamine boards.

The unfinished portion is the front of the drawer, the pull is still under construction.

I also went to Pure Spec this past weekend. It was good. I'm short on sleep, and the caffeine is lacking it's regular kick though.

Ngh?

Things I should remember
Not every show or game I know has any presence on the internet.

Poor Tyler.

In other news I need some new catch phrase for Yunno's entries once he activates his Device. Thoughts or suggestions?

Update? Up with dates!

Things I've Been Up To
Cabinetry - Nearing completion for current project. That being the thing that replaces my current bedside table. There'll be photos when it's just a bit more finished. Promise.
                - Next project is either a new wardrobe or a new desk. My current ones are not meeting my needs.
Milliways - Working on apps for Ako [info]seat_five_girl and Tyler [info]aleister_author. Also, OoM's for Jerry [info]mything_person and mad plans for Yunno [info]magic_ferret.
D&D - Killed the wizard in the party I'm DMing for. He'll get better, but it does them some good to notice that not all the rolls are fudged.
LARPing - New game starts tomorrow. Pirates!
Facebook - the Knighthood application needs a bridge dropped on it, then the bridge needs to explode. I may also be biased. This does not, however, make me necessarily wrong.
Dance Club - Started the previous Tuesday. Not in favour of the current instructor. A certain amount of flair is great for competition, or advanced classes. Showing the basics of waltzing? Not so much. Simple boys. Simple first so we have something to build from.

I think that's everything.
*blink, blink*
Am I missing anything? Remind me, please.

Bad Brain, No Cookies

So. New job. Yah! and I'm totally off at 5 every day and 12:15 on Fridays. I start earlier though, and there's less computer free time during the day.

Next point, the source of the title. I don't need to add a new pup to my Milliways roster. No really, bad idea. I don't need to add a Negima! pup, and it certainly shouldn't be the one girl in the class uninvolved with magic.

Pay no attention at all to the issues inherent in having everyone hide magic from her as she hides Milliways from everyone at the school. The sweet, sweet resultant cra- NO! Not another one. Just because I read the volume that focuses on her during the Festival Arc is not a good reason.

Man I'm so weak

Note to self: Push links to Milliways and rules and such for enabling. Heh. Also, make Dr. Draken icons.

Success and spent money

I've just actually broken down and purchased a pair of e-books from Baen. Remarkably smooth and I didn't have to turn off my script blocking any further than I already had to use the site in the first place. This is what I'd call good design.

Now, to actually read the second book for Jerry's canon all the way through. Several times.

Along with the first book. Again.

But so very smoothly done.

Coming Events for August

Coming up quick like a bunny is the local Anime event. Sooo, on the eighth, ninth and tenth of the coming month I'm probably not going to sleep in any way that you might notice.

Nor will I be online, except for half hour chunks when I stumble home for solid food, a shower and a nap to restock my caffeine supply.

I have vague plans. I does, I does.
